Team Christina's Jacquie Lee and Briana Cuoco battle it out on "The Voice."

"The Voice's" universe was in a hot dense state Monday night, when two coaches fought to keep Briana Cuoco, the younger sister of "Big Bang Theory" star Kaley Cuoco. 

The Battle Rounds are all about the steals, and Christina Aguilera started the fracas when she picked Jacquie Lee over Cuoco (thus costing her any chance at a guest gig as Penny's long-lost cousin on the hit CBS sitcom). In response, both CeeLo Green and Blake Shelton pushed their buttons.

CeeLo spoke first. "I believe that there's a story in your voice and I want to help nurture your niche, so I think you could do very well here on Team CeeLo," he said. Then he turned to Blake and said, "Beat that."

That got Adam Levine cheering — but sadly for him, Blake could, indeed, beat that. And without even bringing his A game.

"I have a feeling how you performed that song that you're probably a songwriter, and how you really connect with the lyrics like that, it's almost as possible not to be," he said.

What? What kind of sales pitch is that?! That's not a desperate plea — it's a statement of fact. But it was enough for Cuoco, even though CeeLo had also pushed for her at the blind auditions.

"I wanted to steal Briana because I think that she can shape-shift so to speak and be different things. But I got other steals, and I got other chicks up my short sleeves," CeeLo said.

Aw, CeeLo. Don't be mad. Maybe you can at least get the consolation prize and write a new "Big Bang Theory" theme song to replace the Barenaked Ladies version. After all, it's not like they ever tried to help Cuoco's singing career.

"Why is Adam such an idiot?"
Blake now has to wait until the Knockout Rounds before he can push his button again. He'd previously started the night off by swiping Nic Hawk from Adam after Nic lost his sing-along to wedding singer Grey.

"Aw, Adam, you screwed up so bad!" Blake said once the results were announced, causing Nic to break down in tears.

"Why are you stealing Nic Hawk?" host Carson Daly asked.

"Why is Adam such an idiot?" Blake replied. "Why don't you ask me that?"

"You delivered an excellent vocal performance and you did all that other crap that you do," Blake then told Nic. "Will you teach me how to dance?"

"Hell yeah, I'll teach you how to dance," Nic said.

That might be a tougher task than winning "The Voice" — but it'll definitely be an interesting pairing to watch going forward.

"If there ever was an odd couple, it's me and Nic," said Blake. "I think this is gonna be a lot of fun."

Love for Anthony
The other contender for top battle of the night was from Team CeeLo, with Anthony Paul taking on Caroline Pennell in a duet of "As Long As You Love Me." The song may be Justin Bieber, but the dark arrangement suited Caroline's unique vocal stylings and caused CeeLo to get downright poetic in his praise.

"There's something so surreal about your voice," he said. "It encourages me to dream with my eyes open."

"CeeLo! I love that line," responded Christina. "That's beautiful," 

Maybe that swayed her heart, because after CeeLo picked Caroline and urged the other judges, "Steal him … someone!" Christina pushed her button and got him.

"Christina stole Anthony, and it's bittersweet. I think that I was wrong pairing them together," CeeLo said.

Cher + Adam?
Blake and guest mentor Cher only had one battle on Monday's show, but it was enough to make Blake a little jealous of one of his fellow coaches.

Blake urged both Justin Chain and Shelbie Z to bring their best to their battle, noting how much Adam would love to steal one of his country singers. 

"I love Adam!" Cher said.

"Oh you do?" Blake said, then challenged, "What's your favorite song he does?"

That gave Cher pause. "Oh, they're all so good," she said.

So maybe she doesn't have any Maroon 5 songs on her iPod. But that might explain why Blake stole Nic, who said at the auditions that Adam might be too good-looking to work with. Best to keep those with a crush on his fellow coach nearby.

But Adam didn't return the favor by stealing Justin, and the country crooner went home after Blake stuck with Shelbie.

U.S. ready to ease Iran sanctions if Tehran acts

GENEVA (Reuters) - The United States held out the prospect of quick sanctions relief for Iran on Monday if Tehran moves swiftly to allay concerns about its nuclear program, although both countries said any deal would be complex and take time.

Six world powers - the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany - are to hold talks with Iran on its nuclear program in Geneva on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"No one should expect a breakthrough overnight," a senior U.S. administration official told reporters.

However, the official said Washington was ready to offer Iran rapid relief from economic sanctions it moved quickly to address concerns that the ultimate goal of its nuclear work was to make bombs.

Any potential sanctions relief would be "targeted, proportional to what Iran puts on the table", the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

"I'm sure they will disagree about what is proportionate," the official said. "But we are quite clear about what the menu of options are and what will match what."

On the eve of the talks, European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who represents the so-called "P5+1" nations in negotiations, had dinner with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who said Tehran would put its case on Tuesday.

"We had a good dinner," Zarif told Reuters as he returned to his hotel after the two-hour dinner at the Iranian diplomatic residence in Geneva.

When asked if he had given Ashton details of an Iranian proposal, he responded: "Proposal is for tomorrow." One diplomat said Zarif did not disclose Iran's proposal at the dinner.

In a hint that Washington is seriously considering easing sanctions, the U.S. delegation at the talks includes one of its leading sanctions experts - Adam Szubin, director of the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman, effectively the State Department's third-ranking diplomat, leads the U.S. delegation.

The European Union's top sanctions official has also joined the bloc's delegation at the talks.

Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful and intended for energy production.

Since 2006, it has rejected U.N. Security Council demands that it halt uranium enrichment and has continued to expand its nuclear fuel program, leading to increasingly harsh sanctions.

This week's meeting follows the June election of President Hassan Rouhani, a relative moderate who says he wants to thaw Iran's icy relations with the West to secure the removal of punitive sanctions that have hobbled its oil-based economy.

Foreign ministers from the P5+1 - including U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry - met with Zarif on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly last month when they announced the plan for this week's meeting.

A day after Kerry met Zarif in New York, President Barack Obama and Rouhani spoke by telephone, the highest level U.S.-Iranian contact since Iran's Islamic revolution in 1979. Washington and Tehran have not had diplomatic relations since 1980.

CHANGE IN TONE

Rouhani said in New York last month he wanted a deal with the P5+1 within three to six months. Zarif played down expectations that an agreement would be reached this week.

"Tomorrow is the start of a difficult and relatively time-consuming way forward," he said on his Facebook page late on Sunday. "I am hopeful that by Wednesday we can reach agreement on a road map to find a path towards resolution.

"But even with the goodwill of the other side, to reach agreement on details and start implementation will likely require another meeting at ministerial level," he said.

The U.S. official said the Obama administration was encouraged that Rouhani, who avoids the strident anti-Western and anti-Israeli rhetoric of his predecessor Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, had a mandate to "pursue a more moderate course".

But Tehran must be put to the test, the official said.

"That is what we will be doing over the coming days," the official said, adding that "no one is naive about the challenges we face about pursuing the diplomatic path."

"We need to see concrete verifiable actions," the official said. "We go into these meetings clear-eyed that we have very, very, very difficult work to do.

"We are going to make judgments based on actions of the Iranian government, not simply its words, although we appreciate the change in its tone," the official said.

Backing up those words, 10 Democratic and Republican U.S. senators said on Monday they were open to suspending the implementation of new U.S. sanctions, but only if Tehran took significant steps to slow its nuclear program.

The U.S. official said Washington had three priorities regarding Iranian assurances: Tehran must take steps on the production of nuclear and related material, ensure transparency of the nuclear program and take steps regarding its stockpile of nuclear material.

In the past, the six powers have demanded, among other things, that Iran halt uranium enrichment, particularly to 20-percent fissile purity, move stockpiles of enriched uranium out of the country and close down the Fordow enrichment plant, buried inside a mountain south of Tehran.

On Sunday, Iran rejected the demand that it send enriched uranium abroad but signaled flexibility on other issues.

Israel, widely assumed to be the Middle East's only state with atomic weapons, has warned the West not to ease sanctions before Tehran has addressed fears about its nuclear ambitions.

An Israeli official said on Saturday that Netanyahu had phoned British Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Francois Hollande to tell them sanctions were close to achieving their goal.

At least 64 die in India temple stampede; more than 100 injured

BHOPAL, India (Reuters) - At least 64 people were killed and more than 100 injured in a stampede after a bridge collapsed near a remote Hindu temple in India's central state of Madhya Pradesh, a senior police official told Reuters on Sunday.

A large number of devotees gathered to celebrate the holy festival of Dussehra at the Ratangarh temple, in a forest outside the town of Datia, 390 km (240 miles) north of the state capital, Bhopal. But a bridge leading to the temple collapsed, triggering the stampede.

"At the moment we can confirm the death toll at 64," Dilip Arya, a deputy inspector general of police, told Reuters. "More than 100 people are injured and being treated in nearby hospitals."

As the bridge collapsed, people began rushing towards the temple and got killed in the stampede, Arya said, adding that a few devotees drowned as they jumped into the Sindh river.

Some local media said the police used batons to control the crowd, prompting many people to panic. Inept handling has led to stampedes on previous occasions.

In February this year, a stampede killed at least 36 Hindu pilgrims, who were part of the world's largest religious festival which attracted some 30 million people.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — After two days of waiting, the Los Angeles Dodgers found out they will play St. Louis in the National League championship series.

The Dodgers worked out Wednesday just as the decisive Game 5 between Pittsburgh and St. Louis began. The team went through hitting sets with the game shown on the stadium's video boards, although there was no noticeable reaction as it progressed.

With the Cardinals winning 6-1, the Dodgers boarded buses to the airport for a flight to St. Louis.

"They're not going down easy," manager Don Mattingly said before the Cardinals won. "We felt like they were the best team in that division. They're a good mix of everything."

If the Pirates had won, the Dodgers would have unpacked their suitcases to stay home for the start of the series Friday.

Beating the Atlanta Braves to wrap up their division series in four games Monday night gave the Dodgers extra rest and time to reset their rotation. They took Tuesday off.

Zack Greinke will start Game 1 of the NLCS. Clayton Kershaw, who pitched on three days' rest Monday for the first time in his career, was set to go on regular rest in Game 2.

The team hopes the layoff will benefit rookie pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu, who struggled in Game 3 against Atlanta, giving up four runs and six hits over three innings.

"I felt he was a little nervous the other day," Mattingly said. "He did some things that he doesn't usually do."

Ryu has said he isn't injured, but the left-hander's performance wasn't as solid as what he showed during the regular season.

"He claims he felt fine and he continues to say he had no type of injury," general manager Ned Colletti said. "Everybody can have a bad start from time to time."

The Dodgers will announce a new 25-man roster for the NLCS. Mattingly said spots were still being discussed.

Andre Ethier was limited to pinch-hitting duty against the Braves, but if his left ankle has healed sufficiently, he could play the outfield. He did some hitting during the workout.

"I still have to sleep tonight to see if it responds tomorrow," Ethier said. "It feels good."

Hanley Ramirez got some rest for a bad back that has slowed him at shortstop, but not at the plate.

Mattingly goes into the next round not knowing if he will be managing the Dodgers next season. The club's new owners, including Mark Walter, Stan Kasten and Magic Johnson, didn't guarantee his option for 2014 last offseason.

"I don't want to speak about my contract," he said. "It's not the right time."

Colletti said he wasn't worried about Mattingly's status, adding, "That will all resolve itself."

Unknown attackers kill 6 in northern Iraq

BAGHDAD (AP) ? Iraqi authorities say unknown attackers have killed six people in northern Iraq, including a local government official.

Police officials say the first attack occurred early Sunday, when gunmen killed two soldiers in an assault on their security checkpoint in the restive city of Mosul, 360 kilometers (225 miles) northwest of Baghdad.

Hours later, a roadside bomb killed a municipal council member and his son in a town near Mosul.

Also, gunmen in another area just south of Mosul sprayed a security checkpoint with bullets, killing two policemen.

Hospital officials confirmed the death toll. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to talk to media.

Violence has spiked in Iraq since the start of the holy month of Ramadan.

Slow Cooker Sticky Chicken Wings | Six Sisters' Stuff

You can learn which sister has to vacuum her house everyday, which sister bungee jumped from the second story of our house using only a piece of yarn, how many of the sisters have peed their pants (I guess we have super weak bladders?!), and which sister burned her fingerprints off when she grabbed a hot pan in the oven without oven mitts . . . good times!

Onto the chicken recipe!
Sometimes going to the grocery store with three kids in tow just isn?t worth it.
It?s days like that when I just start digging through my pantry to find items that will work for dinner.
I had a bag of chicken wings in my freezer and decided that I would try something new . . . they ended up being a huge hit!
You could easily switch out chicken drumsticks or even chicken breasts instead of the wings- all of them will be delicious.
And since it?s made in the slow cooker, it doesn?t get any easier than this!

Slow Cooker Sticky Chicken Wings
Ingredients:
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
1/3 cup soy sauce
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon sriracha (or your favorite hot sauce)
black pepper
15-20 chicken wings
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon water
fresh cilantro
sesame seeds

Directions:
In a sauce pan add the honey, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, sriracha and season to taste with black pepper. Bring the mix to a boil, then lower the temperature and simmer for 5 minutes (until the sugars have dissolved and the sauce is beginning to thicken). Remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes.
Spray the crock pot with non-stick cooking spray and place the chicken inside. Pour the sauce over the chicken and move the chicken around a bit with tongs so that it is completely coated with sauce. Put the lid on and cook on high for 4 hours, flipping chicken a couple of times during the cooking process.
Once finished cooking, remove the chicken pieces and place on a plate. In a small bowl, mix together the cornstarch and water, then pour into the crock pot with the leftover sauce. Mix together well, place chicken back into the slow cooker, and let cook for about 10 minutes (or until the sauce starts to thicken up*). Just before serving, sprinkle with torn cilantro leaves and sesame seeds.
*If you want to speed up this process, pour the sauce into a saucepan and cook on the stovetop for just a couple of minutes, until the sauce thickens.

A2J Clinic Integration into Traditional Clinics | CALI - Your partner in ...

Yesterday, the CALI Spotlight Blog featured three participants from the Access to Justice Clinical Course Project that will be integrating A2J Author into their courses a part of a hybrid clinical experience. Three other participants in the A2J Clinic Project will integrate the use of this software into more traditional clinical courses.
?The A2J Author provides a different lens or perspective from which to view the interviewing process,? explains Professor Joe Rosenberg, director of the Elder Law Clinic at CUNY?s Main Street Legal Services. ?It will be instructive to compare and contrast the approaches we use for client interviews with the A2J Author and consider client needs in both contexts.?
Rosenberg?s Elder Law Clinic focuses primarily on guardianship issues and, over the last few years, students in Rosenberg?s clinic have developed a packet of information to provide some assistance those who cannot gain full representation from the clinic. Next year, as part of the A2J Clinic Project, students in the clinic will work to update this information and develop A2J Guided Interviews to provide further assistance to these self-represented litigants. Rosenberg plans to connect this development work with the interviewing, counseling, ethical and substantive legal work that students undertake.
In the Lawyering in the Digital Age Clinic at Columbia Law, taught by Conrad Johnson, Brian Donnelly, and Mary Marsh Zulack, students are divided into working groups and assigned to help a certain legal aid agency or court address a specific legal problem. Throughout the semester, the students develop a thorough understanding of the legal issue involved through in person meetings with a subject matter expert. Then they research the legal systems available before developing a solution that can be implemented by the requesting legal aid. In the past, students in this clinic have developed A2J Guided Interviews for use by the housing courts as well as a web-site explaining how a person reclaims property seized by the police.
Students in the Health Rights Clinic at the University of Miami, a Medical-Legal Partnership, work directly with patients at Miami-area hospitals to address the legal needs that arise as a result of their health care. JoNel Newman and Melissa Swain teach their students about substantive law in areas such as public benefits, advanced directives, and immigration. For many of these issues, they have already developed flowcharts and written manuals to help students assist their clients. After automating these processes, students in the clinic will be able to take on more clients. Finally, because of the diverse population of students and clients in the Miami area, all of their forms are developed in English, Spanish, and Haitian/Creole.
